Hitting the Marque

There is something ubiquitous about denim, both as a material and as a symbol. I’ve always had an obsession for it, preferably in a broad range of colours and frayed, studded, and bleached within an inch of it’s life.
This probably explains my recent discover and subsequent love affair with Marques ‘ Almeida, now in their second season with London’s Fashion East program (renowned for its director Lulu Kennedy’s fantastic, if somewhat diverse tastes, and keen eye for talent) once again showed a collection of shredded denim and decayed jersey that brings to mind images of apocalyptic californian surfers-slash-skaters.
It could be said that the collection as a whole was a little repetitive, but I have a feeling we will see a lot of this in magazines over coming months, and considering Opening Ceremony (always a good barometer of coolness) snapped up the debut collection and will probably take on this one as well, the future looks promising for those of us who like their jeans torn to shreds.
